“May Peace be the Foundation of the Future” – Uruguay Vice-President

“Two years old?” H.E. Raul Fernando Sendic Rodriguez, Uruguay Vice President and President of the Senate, said when he saw a picture of Ariane, a 2-year-old child killed in the Genocide against the Tutsi. Vice-President Rodriguez was visiting the Children’s Room as part of a tour at the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

On his one day visit to Rwanda, Vice-President Rodriguez took time to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial where he paid his respects to the victims of the Genocide. The Vice-President was welcomed to the memorial by Aegis Trust Regional Director Freddy Mutanguha and Guide Officer Pacifique Bonheur. Aegis Trust runs the Kigali Genocide Memorial on behalf of the Government of Rwanda.

Accompanied by his delegation, the Vice-President placed a wreath of flowers on the burial place at the memorial where more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide have been laid to rest. He was also guided through the exhibits where he learnt about the causes, reality and consequences of the Genocide against the Tutsi. During the tour, Vice-President Rodriguez was explained the process of recovery Rwanda is undertaking to build unity and harmony between Rwandans.

Vice-President Rodriguez concluded his tour in a room dedicated to young Rwandans killed in the Genocide.
