The Government of the Japan contributed towards the expansion of the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the construction of the amphitheatre which opened in 2014.
Across its major Rwandan programmes based at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Aegis Trust works in cooperation with all relevant Government departments. The Memorial also works with the Government to support delivery of Kwibuka - the annual commemoration - and regularly hosts visits by foreign dignitaries.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial has partnered with the Mashirika Performing Arts and Media Company for many years, Mashirika regularly collaborating to deliver creative and artistic elements of commemorative events. The Mashirika team is also involved in the Ubumuntu Arts Festival, hosted annually at the Memorial.
The Aegis Trust manages the Kigali Genocide Memorial on behalf of Rwanda’s Ministry of National Unity & Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE).
Through the Genocide Archive of Rwanda, the Kigali Genocide Memorial works with the National Archive of Rwanda to ensure full documentation and access to information about the Genocide against the Tutsi.
