On 18th July 2023, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to pay respects to the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi and learn more about the history of the Genocide.
Hon. Nabbanja began her visit by laying a wreath on the burial place where 250,000 victims of the Genocide are laid to rest. Together with her delegation, she observed a moment of silence to honour the victims of the Genocide.
On this visit, Hon. Nabbanja was accompanied by Clarisse Munezero, the Permanent Secretary in Rwandaās Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE)
During this visit, Hon. Nabbanja together with her delegation toured the memorial exhibits to learn more about the history of the Genocide. The exhibition details the causes, reality and consequences of the Genocide against the Tutsi as well as the incredible stories of post-genocide reconstruction that have taken place in Rwanda. This includes how justice and reconciliation have been fostered.
āGenocide against the Tutsi is a regreatable act against humanity. The Government of Uganda and all its people condemn this evil act and join the people of Rwanda in resolving that it must never happen again. Let us stand for peace and unity, Ubumwe and Ubuntu. May the souls of the Genocide victims rest in eternal peace.ā Hon. Nabbanja wrote.
