On 19th July 2023, the Vice President J. Uduch Sengebau Senior, Vice President of the Republic of Palau & Minister of Justice has been deeply moved by his experience at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. He made this statement while writing in the guestbook after his visit.
The tour began with a laying of wreaths on the burial place where 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi are laid to rest. Hon. Sengebau was then guided through the museum, learning about the history of the Genocide, from the colonial roots of ethnic division through to the horrors of the killings. She also had an opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s efforts to foster a shared sense of national identity.
Hon. Sengebau, expressed amazement at the remarkable Rwanda’s response to the tragedy with efforts towards reconciliation and peace.
“It was a moving experience to go through this memorial of the 1994 Genocide. It was a great tragedy that the world did not stop, but as we see almost 30 years later, Rwanda is now a peaceful country. Thanks for taking us on this tour. We shall never forget.” Hon. Sengebau Senior wrote.
