Kigali Genocide Memorial to host Aegis Youth Day

Posted in News

The Aegis Trust, a non-governmental organisation that aims to prevent crimes against humanity, is organising the Aegis Youth Day. The event will take place on 20 May 2016, beginning at 8:30am at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The guest of honour for the event will be the Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana.

The event will gather over 500 young people, including youth champions, students of the Rwanda Peace Education Programme (RPEP) and other young people who have participated in Aegis Trust’s youth programmes over the last three years. This will be also an occasion to award winners of the Aegis Trust National Schools Art Competition in drawing and poetry under the theme of Ubunyarwanda: Ipfundo ry’ubumwe n’iterambere byacu (Being Rwandan is the foundation of our unity and development).

The aim of the event is to allow young Rwandans to connect and share their experiences in peace building activities in their communities over the last three years. It will also serve to review the impact of the Rwanda Peace Education Programme in their communities. This programme will come to an end in June 2016.

Young people interesting in peace building are welcome to attend to learn more about the work being done by their peers to build peace and unity in their communities.
