Posted in News

On Thursday 12 May 2016, over 50 staff members from the Management Science for Health (MSH) visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to remember their families, friends and others who were victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The Management Science for Health (MSH) is a non-governmental organization which aims at saving lives and improving the health of the world’s less fortunate and the vulnerable by closing the gap between knowledge and action in the public health section. It operates in partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Health.

The group began their visit by visiting the memorial’s exhibition to learn more about the history and causes of the 1994 Genocide, and to learn about fighting Genocide ideology. The group concluded their tour by laying wreaths on the mass graves, which are the final resting place for over 250’000 victims of the Genocide, and by observing a moment of silence in tribute to the victims.

“Genocide has affected some of us as well. As Rwandans, We wanted to visit this Memorial Site in order to pay respect to genocide victims as we are still in Kwibuka22 commemoration period […] I get a new feeling in every visit to a memorial site. It’s so sad to think about what happened in genocide, but we have to keep remembering in order to avoid forgetting. We have to love and support each other at workplace in order to eradicate any source of hate and Genocide ideology.” Dr. Apolline Uwayitu , MSH Director

“We thank the Kigali Genocide Memorial for its great work in preserving genocide evidences. This was really an educative visit.” Richard Rugumire, Head of Communication Department
