A group of 25 artists from the Primus Guma Guma Superstar competition and representatives of Primus Rwanda and East African Promotors have generously donated 500,000 Rwandan francs (US $670) to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The group made the donation while touring the memorial and paying their respects to victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

The musicians began their tour of the memorial by visiting the historical exhibits which tell the story of the Genocide and the steps young Rwandans are taking to rebuild their nation. They also laid a wreath on the burial place where more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide are laid to rest.

Speaking on behalf of the artists James Manzi, also known as Humble Jizzo, said that they have learnt a valuable lesson from what they saw at the memorial and encouraged other artists to visit to learn more about the history of Rwanda and the Genocide.

“We learn a lot today and saw the evidence of genocide, in Rwanda and in other places. It is important for us to understand the Genocide because we as artists are key to disseminating the message of fighting against genocide as we have many different supporters and followers. I encourage other artists to visit the memorial to learn more about Rwanda’s history,” he said.

The donation will be used to support the remembrance and learning activities of the memorial, including supporting survivors and the memorial’s onsite education programmes. Braliwra, which organises the competition, has been a generous supporter of the memorial over many years.
