Israel’s Ambassador-designate pays tribute to victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi

Posted in News

On 17th August, Einat Weiss, Israel’s Ambassador designate to Rwanda visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and paid respects to the victims of Genocide against the Tutsi.

Ambassador Weiss laid a wreath at the burial place where 250,000 victims of the genocide are laid to rest and observed a minute of silence in their honour.

Guided through the museum, Ambassador Weiss had an opportunity to learn more about the history of the genocide, from the colonial roots of ethnic division through to the horrors of the killings, and gain insights on Rwanda’s journey to foster a shared sense of national identity.

Ambassador Weiss described the memorial as important in teaching about Rwandan history and giving hope.

“I want to share with you the feelings of sadness, rage and hope that I felt going through the exhibition of the Genocide against the Tutsi,” the Ambassador wrote in the Memorial’s guestbook. “I feel humbled learning about Rwandan history, what you went through and how you gave hope and peace such an important place. You are a true inspiration to the world. I am honoured visiting this place.”
