MAGERWA remembers former employees killed in the Genocide against the Tutsi at Kigali Genocide Memorial

Staff of MAGERWA (Rwanda’s General Warehouses) have gathered at the Kigali Genocide Memorial to commemorate former employees killed in the Genocide against the Tutsi.

Hundreds of Magerwa staff were guided through the memorial’s exhibits to learn about the causes and consequences of the Genocide. Afterwards, the staff laid a wreath of flowers at the mass grave, a final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide.

Mr Egide Nkuranga, Vice President of Ibuka, an umbrella association of genocide survivor organisations, spoke of the causes of the Genocide, its preparation and encouraged the staff members of MAGERWA to fight genocide ideology, which he called “impurities” in the Rwandan society today.

“I encourage you to learn more about the genocide history. The hateful ideas coined to deny the Genocide against the Tutsi will be refuted, thus purifying the society of all impurities that may soil the pure minds,” he said.

In his remarks, Lambert Nyoni, the Chief Executive Officer of MAGERWA, reminded his colleagues to work hard and stay focused on the important things:

“We need to focus more on important things and not let genocide ideology linger in our minds,” says Lambert Nyoni. “The 1994 Magerwa was a corrupted and divided company. We don’t want to pass the evil legacy on to our descendants.”

Created in 1969, Magasins Généraux du Rwanda (MAGERWA), has in possession warehouses approved and under control of the Customs and Excise Department of Rwanda Revenue Authority.
