President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo visits the Kigali Genocide Memorial

On 21st July 2023, Kigali Genocide Memorial welcomed President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo to pay respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and learn more about the history of Genocide. 

In honour of more than one million victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, President Sassou Nguesso laid a wreath on the burial place where 250.000 victims of the Genocide are laid to rest. 

Among other government officials and diplomats accompanied President Sassou Nguesso on his visit to Kigali Genocide Memorial include: Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Vincent Biruta, Rwanda’s Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, Dr Bizimana Jean-Damascene and Ambassador Guy Nestor Itou of Congo-Brazzaville in Rwanda.
