Madagascar’s Foreign Minister pays respects at Kigali Genocide Memorial

Posted in News

On 20th November 2025, Ms. Christine Harijaona Razanamahasoa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar, together with her delegation, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial where they paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

During their visit, the delegation learned more about the causes and realities of the Genocide. The experience provided an opportunity to deepen their understanding of how division and violence shattered the nation and how unity, resilience, and collective healing have shaped Rwanda’s recovery.

At the end of her visit, the Minister wrote in the Memorial’s guestbook. The message was in French, which translates as:

“This memorial illustrates the devastating consequences of a thirst for power built on a politics of division. Tears fall during the visit, knowing we had lived through a scene that will forever remain in humanity’s memory. Never again. We honor the memory of the victims and the courage of the Rwandan people.”
