Madagascar President honours victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi

On 11th August, President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to his respects to the victims of Genocide against the Tutsi.

President Rajoelina began his visit by laying a wreath at the burial place where 250,000 victims of the genocide are laid to rest. Together with his delegation, he observed a moment of silence in their honour. 

Guided through the memorial’s exhibitions by HonorĂ© Gatera, Director of the Kigali Genocide Memorial, President Rajoelina and his delegation were shown the causes and consequences of the Genocide against the Tutsi as well as incredible stories of post-genocide reconstruction.

President Rajoelina was accompanied on his visit by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Vincent Biruta and the Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, Dr Jean-Damascene Bizimana.

“Une pensĂ©e particulière aux victimes et au familles,” President Rajoelina wrote in the Memorial’s guestbook. â€śA special thought for the victims and their families.”
