Not many people are a ware of the magnitude of the Genocide and the impact it had on the social-economic landscape on Rwanda; until reality sinks in their consciousness. The wanton slaughter of Tutsis and their sympathetic moderate Hutus was simply the most horrifying atrocities meted out on humanity on large scale in recent modern history. Such a nation like Rwanda, needs a long span of time to heal the gnawing wounds of negative ethnicity, suspicion, hatred, social classes, economic marginalization, intolerance and blatant abuse of human rights; as well as long standing and deep historical injustices. I read much in books, but this time I wanted to be on the ground, and embrace what many won’t hear, the reality! It is actually true that the Genocide happened, but it should never again occur in Rwanda nor in any other part of Africa.
